WhatsApp Disrupts Phishing Campaigns Linked to Spyware Firm NSO Group

What happened

The messaging application WhatsApp announced that it successfully identified and halted a new wave of hacking and phishing campaigns connected to the notorious spyware developer NSO Group. According to the platform, these malicious activities were detected following user reports indicating that attackers attempted to trick individuals into clicking malicious links designed to redirect them to external fraudulent websites. Furthermore, WhatsApp detected the creation of suspicious test accounts and groups linked to the operation, which were promptly blocked and taken down. This decisive security intervention follows a previous federal court order that explicitly prohibited NSO Group from targeting WhatsApp infrastructure and its global user base. In response to these fresh violations of the injunction, WhatsApp has officially requested the court to hold the spyware firm in contempt of court for repeatedly bypassing legal boundaries and compromising digital safety.
