Meta announced the development of the Personal Agent Protocol as an open standard, created in collaboration with industry partners including Sierra, Shopify, Stripe, and Walmart. The protocol is designed to standardize how AI agents like Muse interact with commercial platforms, manage authentication securely, direct agents to optimized APIs, and reduce friction in automated purchases and customer support workflows. Additionally, Meta outlined browser-based navigation principles for AI agents adhering to open web standards and behavior testing protocols to ensure safe and predictable automated transactions between users, their personal AI assistants, and enterprise systems.
